This project began in 1983 and over the years has gone through several phases.
Phase I: 4400 SF Japanese style addition (4BR, 3BA) to a 2000 SF (2BR, 2BA) home originally designed by William Wurster.
There is extensive custom cabinetry, tokonoma, shoji, and details. The program required two stories and the existing home was one story. Out of respect for William Wurster I chose not to alter the overall feeling of the existing, therefore I placed the addition adjacent to the existing home. To prevent the addition from dwarfing the existing I designed the building with a series of varied roof levels and projections with the upper story stepped back from the lower story.
Phase II thru VI: Custom furniture, Japanese entry gate and landscape, trellis, entertainment room, and remodels to the existing house including interior and exterior walls, deck, lighting, cabinetry, and fireplace.
This project was on the cover and feature story in Northern California Home & Garden as well as being published in the San Francisco newspaper.
